SHS boys basketball team net a win

The Superior High School boys basketball team opened the season with a 52-26 win over the Republic County Buffaloes at Belleville Saturday. The Wildcats played Fairbury, at Fairbury, Tuesday, with game results unavailable at press time.

Theo Mathis, Superior, works the fast break down the court when the Wildcats played Republic Co., Saturday at Belleville.

Superior trailed 12-9 after the first quarter. The Wildcats regrouped and clawed their way to a 29-21 lead after two quarters of play. It was smooth sailing the rest of the way as Superior was off to a successful start to the 2022-2023 season.

The Wildcat offense was spearheaded by Tanner Theis with 19 points. Jacob Meyer was close behind with 18 points. Ashton Grassman put up 14 points. Dayne Clark contributed a free throw. Theis nailed down seven rebounds. Grassman and Theo Mathis produced six rebounds apiece. Roscoe Baumbach compiled five rebounds. Colten Butler and Meyer took care of two rebounds each.

The Wildcats host Wilber-Clatonia for the Parents night game Saturday at the high school gymnasium. The Blue Hill Bobcats land in Superior Tuesday for a game.
