SHS wrestling opens season with two meets

It was a busy Friday and Saturday for the Superior High School wrestling team. The Wildcats competed at the Sandy Creek quadrangular Friday. The team competed at the Harvard Invitational Saturday. The Wildcat squad rosters a large number of underclassmen who are looking to gain experience throughout the season.

Superior faced off against Sandy Creek’s USD5 team which has wrestlers from Red Cloud, Lawrence-Nelson and Blue Hill on their roster through cooperative programs. Superior has a cooperative program with Deshler. Kyler Boyles won his match at 170 pounds. Henry Griljava picked up the win in the 285 pound weight bracket. Holden McDonald lost his match at 120 pounds. Colt Laaker was defeated in his 138 pound class match. Cooper Sheely was unsuccessful in his 145 pound match. Superior won the meet 36-18.

The Wildcats then faced off against Meridian. Lincoln Sander lost his match at the 152 pound weight bracket. Kyler Boyles was defeated in his 182 pound weight bracket. Holden McDaniel won his 120 pound match. Cooper Sheely was defeated in his match at the 145 pound mark. Superior emerged with a 33-18 meet win.

Superior finished in 11th place, with 44 points, at the Harvard meet. There were 17 teams in the field.

McDonald took sixth place in the 120 pound weight bracket. He earned 5.5 team points.

Laaker finished in eighth place at the 138 pound weight bracket. He was awarded no team points.

Cooper Sheely was in ninth place in the 138 pound weight bracket. He earned no team points.

Lincoln Sander was in 12th place in the 145 pound weight bracket. He earned two team points.

Aaron Allgood held down fourth place in the 160 pound weight bracket. He picked up eight team points.

Cooper Ehlers finished eighth place in the 160 pound weight bracket.

David Hodges took eighth in the 170 pound division. Kyler Boyles took fifth place in the 170 pound weight class. He earned 9.5 points.

Christian Osweiller was in sixth place in the 220 pound weight bracket. He earned six team points.

Henry Griljava earned a place on the podium of the 285 pound weight bracket with his third place finish. He earned the Wildcats 16 team points.

Superior competes ate the Wood River Invitational Friday. The team travels to Daykin, Saturday, for the Meridian Invitational.
