Steve Aksamit

Stephen John Aksamit was born Oct. 4, 1945, to Bill and Rose (Kucera) Aksamit. He grew up on the family farm 3 miles south of Deweese, Nebraska. He attended Pleasant Hill Elementary School and graduated from Nelson High School. After graduation, he attended a trade school for auto-body repair. He served in the army from Dec. 14, 1965 to Dec. 1, 1967. He lived in Hastings for some time but the majority of his adult life, he served as the operator of the family farm.

Steve was true to his schooling and liked his vehicles and equipment to be in good condition. He enjoyed dealing with his cattle and was fond of the farm cats.

He was a great fan of Gunsmoke and the many other westerns he watched as a child.

Steve was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Bill and Ron Aksamit; and sister, Becky Aksamit. He is survived by his sister, Ginny (Aksamit) Haddix; and several nieces and nephews.

Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10 a.m., today (Thursday, Feb. 2), from the Our Lady of Assumption Catholic Church in Deweese with Rev. Jamie Hottovy officiating. Rosary will be at 9:30 a.m. before the mass.

Honorary pallbearers will be Pat Faimon, Josh Faimon, Ken Aksamit, Jeff Haddix, Ken Haddix and Jason Haddix.

Inurnment will be in the Assumption Cemetery at Deweese. A lunch at Assumption Parish Center followed.

Memorials are suggested to go in care of the family.
