L-N boys basketball concludes season

The Lawrence-Nelson High School boys basketball team hopes for a deep post-season run were dashed by the Sandy Creek Cougars in the opening round of sub-district D-1 6 play last Tuesday at Kenesaw. The Cougars eliminated the Raiders with their 49-37 win.

The Raiders led 22-20 at the half and seemed positioned to grind out a win. The teams were tied at 32 when the final quarter got underway. The Raiders offense failed them as Sandy Creek poured through 17 points while limiting the Lawrence-Nelson offense to five point. The Raiders ended the season with an 11-11 record.

Krayton Kucera led the Raiders scoring with 18 points. Nolan Ostdiek hit for 11 points. Clay Williams scored three points. Sawyer Cox and Toby Kotinek contributed two points apiece. Connor Janda sank a free throw for one point. Williams claimed nine rebounds. Toby Kotinek and Tyson Kotinek nabbed three rebounds each. Cox and Janda finished with a rebound each.

It was the final appearance on the court for seniors Devyn Zikmund, Toby Kotinek, Krayton Kucera, Erik Wheeland, Tyson Kotinek, Will Dougherty and Keaton Mazour.
