Superior conducting housing needs survey

SUPERIOR HOUSING STUDY UPDATE-RESIDENT AND EMPLOYER SURVEY AVAILABLE

Superior residents are being asked to participate in an online survey to help city officials update the community’s housing study and possibly adjust housing programs and projects that are planned in the next five years.

A separate survey has also been developed for employers to provide any additional information as it relates to current and future employees having access to adequate housing.

The resident survey can be accessed at: superiorhousing2023.com.

The employer survey can be accessed at https://www.surveymonkey. com/r/SuperiorEmployerHousing

Both surveys are available until Friday, May 12, 2023.

For the past several years, the City of Superior has completed multiple projects and programs with the goal of improving the condition and availability of housing in the community. In 2016, the city utilized grant funds from the State of Nebraska to rehabilitate eight owner occupied homes and demolish 10 uninhabitable homes. To date, the city has cleared roughly 50 lots of dilapidated and uninhabitable structures. In 2020, the city undertook the new construction of single-family homes on residential lots that had been previously cleared; to date, four homes have been completed and two are under construction. As a result of the city’s approval of a tax increment financing project (TIF) in 2022, construction is underway on as many of five new town homes on the north side of Superior in the Montana Meadows Villas Subdivision.

Now, the city has a contract with Five Rule Rural Planning to update its current housing study. An important part of that effort is checking in with the community to gauge how successful its housing improvements have been and find out what residents believe is still missing. This study is scheduled to be presented to the city council at its regular meeting on Monday, May 22.
