Lawrence Pool Update

The Lawrence Pool has been going in full swing since June 7. A coat of paint was put on the pool floor and allowed time to dry before opening. This season there are four full time lifeguards and five part time lifeguards. So far scheduling hasn't been too big of an issue. Although, it does get difficult when they all have camps or sports events at the same time!

Lawrence EMT's and lifeguards, collaborated in a drill this past week. They had a patron pretend to drown, the lifeguards went to work to rescue the child, as the EMS were called. Once the child was pulled from the pool by the lifeguards, the EMT's then took over using a dummy. It was a good learning experience for both lifeguards and EMT's. Pictured are Peg Faimon, Emily Kohmetscher, Hanna Skinner, David Theer, Adam Theer, Carter Griffis and Greg Pohlmeier.

The state inspector visited last week with an all in all good report. A few minor cement cracks are needing filled, and the diving board will need to be resurfaced in the near future. The plastic latch on the baby pool, that is required by the state, kept breaking. Thankfully, Russ Menke, the village maintenance man, made one out of metal this year. It is solid and the state guy was amazed! We joked that we need to patent that nice invention!

The Lawrence EMT's come in for training last week. We ran through the whole drill as if someone needed to be saved, how to get them out of the pool and start CPR. The EMT's practiced taking over with their machines and loading them in the ambulance. We hope this never happens for real, but it's a good reminder to all the lifeguards that their job is so important!

Water aerobics are held every Monday through Wednesday from 6 to 7 p.m. and only $2 a session. This season we have the biggest group we have ever had. Come on over and bring a friend! We have fun, we don't judge, and the only requirement is that you do what you can and have fun with us.

Pool hours are Saturday through Tuesday 1 to 6 p.m. and Wednesday through Friday 1 to 8 p.m. Weather permitting, we're planning a night swim this Friday from 8:30 to 11:30 p.m. Admission is $3 with no passes accepted. Children under second grade need adult supervision.

For any updates, we encourage you to like the Lawrence Pool on Facebook. We look forward to seeing you this summer and wish you a fun and safe swimming season!!
