Leonard Wortman

Leonard Henry Wortman died April 8, 2024, at home, at the age of 93 years, 9 months 17 days. He was born to Henry and Johanna (Stolnow) Wortman on June 22, 1930, at the family farm at Ruskin, Nebraska.

Leonard served in the Marines and was stationed in California. He was united in marriage to Thelma Borgmann on July 27, 1952. They enjoyed more than 46 years together until Thelma died. They were blessed with three children: Duane, Marilyn and Carolyn.

Dancing was an enjoyable activity and Leonard belonged to several square dance groups. He was always ready for different adventures and sightseeing, which included going to Germany and Paris.

Leonard was a farmer and livestock producer throughout his life until retirement. He was an avid horse lover, later turning his interest to mules. He then drove a school bus in Lincoln for a number of years. Leonard enjoyed playing cards and pool. Watching Gunsmoke was a favorite. He devoted time to reading the Bible and anything John Deere.

He is survived by his children: Duane and Kolleen Wortman, Marilyn and Terry Ringen, Carolyn Wortman and special person, Larry Barton; grandchildren: Jeremy and Kristin Wortman, Jerod Wortman, Teresa and Mark Denton, Jennifer and Kevin Nolan, Michael and Tara Ringen, Matthew and Natalie Ringen, Sharla Wendeln; great-grandchildren: Gavin and Olivia Wortman, Zachary, Marley, Hailey and Makayla Denton, Paige, Tre and Taylor Nolan, Nevaeh, Eden and Willa Ringen, Laney and Leo Ringen, Debreigh and Aceson Wendeln; other relatives and friends. Leonard was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Edwin; wife, Thelma; and special person, Myrel Garvey.

His funeral was held at 10 a.m., Saturday, April 13, at St. Mark Lutheran Church in Ruskin, Nebraska, with Pastor Jose Flores officiating. Organist Kathy Kniep accompanied the congregation as they sang "How Great Thou Art," "What A Friend We Have In Jesus" and "I Know That My Redeemer Lives." Soloist Nate Behrends sang "In The Garden." Honorary casket bearers were the grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Burial was at the St. Mark Lutheran Church Cemetery, Ruskin.
