    Arthur (Archie) Leroy Thompson, age 70, died Sunday, Dec. 24, 2023, at Via Christi St. Francis in Wichita, Kansas. He was born to Glen S. and Iris A. (Maley) Thompson on Aug. 2, 1953, in Beloit, Kansas. Archie married Donna Mallory on Oct. 26, 1973. To this union they were blessed with three sons; Shane, Curtis and Kevin.     It may look and feel like winter today, but planning is already underway for the arrival of spring and the celebration of Easter. The Superior Area Community Chorus has begun planning for their annual Easter cantata which will be presented at 3 and 7 p.m. on Palm Sunday. This year Palm Sunday is March 24.     I was shocked this week when an 18-year-old woman visiting the newspaper office asked if she could touch and closely examine the Burroughs cash register that sits on our front counter. I’ve had a love-hate relationship with that machine since I joined the newspaper staff more than 50 years ago. I’ve never considered it old, since it is newer than the first cash register I used.     With the heavy snowfall and anticipated high winds, Chris Peterson, the mayor of Superior, declared a snow emergency Monday morning. According to the news release from the city office, a snow emergency means weather conditions have made travel extremely hazardous.
