Duane Schroeder

 


Duane J. Schroeder, 84, died May 18, at his home at Ruskin. He was born in Wynot, Neb., on April 13, 1936, to Ignatious (Iggy) and Ida (Pinkleman) Schroeder. Following graduation from Wynot High School, he enlisted in the Army and served from 1955 to 1958 including a stint in Germany.

Upon returning to northeast Nebraska, Duane was united in marriage to Jolene Holcomb in 1959. They were blessed with two sons, Lance L. Schroeder and Darin D Schroeder. Here, he began his more than 30 year career with Nebraska Public Power District. This union later ended.

In 1982, he was united in marriage to Janice K. (Ulrich) Holcomb. This union was blessed with two daughters, Kim R. Schroeder and Sara L. Schroeder as well as Janice’s daughters from a previous marriage, Pam and Kris Holcomb.

Duane enjoyed serving others by sponsoring many individuals through the Alcoholics Anonymous program. In his spare time, he enjoyed attending auctions, flea markets, and camping as a member of the Triangle Camping Group. Friends and family who knew Duane, know he was always on the go. “Gotta get to gettin’”

Duane was preceded in death by his parents, Ida and Iggy; wife, Janice; sister, Katherine; and granddaughter, Karlie.

He is survived by siblings, Laverne (Sandy) of Norfolk; JoAnn (Larry) Driver of Wynot; Lucille Foster of South Sioux City; Mark of Redding, Calif.; and, Darlene Olson of Viking, Minn.; children,: Lance of Siloam Springs, Ark.; Darin Schroeder and friend Edith of Siloam Springs; Kim (Dustin) Schroeder of Grand Island; Sara (John) Mertens of Nelson; Pam (Mike) Bower of Nelson; and Kris Holcomb of Nelson; 16 grandchildren, one great-grandchild, and a host of family and friends.

A graveside service for immediate family at Washington County Cemetery near Byron, was held May 23. Family and friends met at The Acerage Steakhouse in Hubbell from 12 to 2 p.m.
