SHS vs. Doniphan-Trumbull

The Superior Lady Wildcats traveled to Doniphan last Friday to play the Doniphan-Trumbull Lady Cardinals. Superior turned the ball over 20 times and shot only 34 percent (16-for-47). The probability of winning the game is usually unlikely with these stats. "Our girls are a resilient group and didn't let the early struggles keep them from taking down D-T with a score of 51-38. Superior battled hard in the game and dominated the 4th quarter to pull away from the Cardinals.

The Wildcats scored double digits in each quarter, but the team's lack of ball control let D-T stay in the game. The Cardinals fell behind 13-5 in the first quarter. In the second quarter Superior committed eight turnovers and Doniphan-Trumbull outscored them 13-10. The score at halftime had Superior leading 23-18.

Even though they turned the ball over 18 times in the first three quarters, Superior never trailed. The Wilcat's defense and ability to control the glass kept them in the lead.

"We really emphasized keeping the ball out of the paint and keeping them on the perimeter," Nannen said. "Credit to D-T, they did a nice job hitting some perimeter shots, but that was something we were okay with giving up. In the fourth quarter, our intensity picked up a little more in our close outs and we were getting more in their faces. I think that really helped us down the stretch."

Ella Gardner is set to attempt a free throw for Superior during their win against Doniphan-Trumbull, at Doniphan, Friday.

"We're definitely trending upwards; we have a long ways to go, but we just have to continue grinding in practice and continue finding our roles," the Superior coach said." Hopefully, in a couple of weeks we're playing our best basketball."

Stats follow:

Ella Gardner - 12 points, 6 rebounds, 2 assists, 1 steal, 1 turnover

Shayla Meyer - 11 points, 11 rebounds, 1 assist, 1 steal, 4 turnovers, 1 block

Laci Kirchhoff - 10 points, 6 rebounds, 2 assists, 1 turnover

Sierra Blackburn - 9 points, 4 rebounds, 3 assists, 1 steal, 4 turnovers

Emma Henderson - 7 points, 5 rebounds, 3 turnovers

Attlee Kobza - 2 points, 2 rebounds, 1 assist, 3 steals, 5 turnovers, 1 block
