Two deputies attend law academy

The Jewell County Commissioners Brent Beck, Steve Greene and Keith Roe met Tuesday, Feb. 16.

The minutes of the Feb. 12, special meeting were approved with the addition of “All commissioners received considerable input from the community.”

The commissioners unanimously disapproved Jeremy Luedke’s application for an emergency for vehicle permit. Steve Greene seconded the motion.

Don Jacobs, sheriff, advised two deputies were attending the law enforcement academy. He has been working on courthouse security. Jacobs gave an update on the Burr Oak bank robbery. He said the FBI and KBI are actively working on the case with no arrests at this time.

Joel Elkins, general superintendent, discussed equipment issues because of the extreme winter weather. A right of way agreement for Roger McCollough was approved to grant permission to construct and operate a water line across public road right of way on Vicksburg 39 (across 310 Road by the southeast corner of section 13 of Vicksburg Township).

Travis Garst, solid waste director, provided the January 2021 monthly activity report.

Chris Petet, custodian, discussed the courthouse boilers.
