Douglas G. Sterkel, 54, of Madison, N.J., died at home on Feb. 13, 2021. A memorial service will be planned at a later date. Arrangements are by Wm. A. Bradley & Son Funeral Home in Chatham.

Doug was born in Superior, the son of Darwin and Sandra (Klawit- ter) Sterkel. He grew up on a farm near Nelson, Neb., and graduated from Nelson High School where he was active in FFA, football and track. He earned his undergraduate degree from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln where he was a member of Alpha Gamma Rho Fraternity and the livestock judging team. He earned his MBA from Loyola University in Chicago.

He lived in Maryland and Chicago before moving to Madison in 2000. Doug worked at Abbott Laboratories and AgriCapital prior to starting his own investment banking firm, Sterkel & Co., three years ago. He was a huge Nebraska Cornhusker football fan! He also enjoyed paddle tennis, skiing, travel, visiting the farm, gardening, cooking and most importantly, he loved watching Austin play football and lacrosse, and Jess and Jordyn compete in gymnastics competitions.

Doug was Julie's best friend since the day they met 30 years ago in New Zealand, while both were traveling the world. Fate bought two people together despite the 9,195 miles from Nebraska to Australia.

Doug was the beloved husband of 27 years to Julie and the father of Austin, Jess and Jordyn.
