Courthouse to close at noon Dec. 30 to finish books

The Jewell County Commissioners met Dec. 6. Commissioners Brent Beck, Steve Greene and Keith Roe and Carla J. Waugh, county clerk were present.

Don Koester, Mankato City Library Board member, provided an update on the story walk. He had the story board post and book page display for the commissioners to view. He discussed the proposed locations of the posts and said they were scheduled to work on it.

Shannon Meier, ambulance director, reviewed the monthly activity and billing reports for November.

Cindy Becker, health administrator, and Carla Ost discussed COVID-19 testing procedures.

Don Jacobs, sheriff, said he was elected to represent the Sheriff’s Association on the North Central Kansas Regional Homeland Security Council Board. He had the maintenance and support agreement for the fingerprint machine. The contract was signed with Idemia Identity & Security USA LLC for the extension to the maintenance and support agreement for a period through Dec. 31, 2022. Jacobs also discussed the GPS System in each of the vehicles and getting bids for a patrol vehicle and trading off the Chevrolet pickup.

Joel Elkins, general superintendent, discussed equipment maintenance. Steve Greene met with Eldon Miller about road concerns in the Mt. Carmel area. Brent Beck reported a tube needs some repair. Keith Roe said he had a complaint about the Webber Road.

Brenda Eakins, county treasurer, discussed closing the courthouse to the public at noon on Dec. 30, to close the books for the year. The commissioners gave their approval.
