Shirley Gunn

Shirley M. Gunn, 85, daughter of Herbert Smith and Hazel (Hammond) Smith, was born May 21, 1936, at Belleville. She died Feb. 6, at Republic County Hospital, Belleville.

Shirley graduated from Belleville High School in 1954. She was united in marriage to Robert L. Gunn on Aug. 21, 1954. To this union two children were born, Belinda and James.

She was a member of the United Methodist Church, Republic, and MNO Bridge Club. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She was employed as city clerk of Republic for more than 30 years. She was a talented seamstress and traveled the state as a craft show participant.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Herbert and Hazel Smith; husband, Robert L. Gunn; one son, James Gunn; two brothers, Clifford Smith and William Smith.

She is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Jake Myers (Belinda) of Wichita; two grandsons, Jason Spitler of Topeka, and Clint Spitler of rural Lindsborg, Kan.; six great-grandchildren; and one sister, Peggy Eubanks of Camarillo, Calif.

Cremation was selected.

Her funeral was held at 10:30 a.m., Friday, at the United Methodist Church, Republic. It was conducted by Pastors Lance Rundus and Roger Walls.

A private family inurnment was in Rose Mound Cemetery, near Republic.
