Jewell Chamber begins new year

The 2023 officers of the Jewell Chamber of Commerce are (standing from left) Kerma Crouse, vice-president; Peg Bohnert, president, (sitting) Frank Shelton, treasurer and Stacey Delzeit, secretary. 

The Jewell Chamber of Commerce met for the first time in 2023 at the Jewell Community Center on Monday, Jan. 9. The meeting began with a prayer by Pastor Dan Daniels and a meal served by the Jewell J-Janes. 

The business meeting was called to order by newly elected president, Peg Bohnert. Frank Shelton was elected treasurer, Kerma Crouse is vice-president and Stacey Delzeit is secretary.

During the business meeting, the group established two new standing committees.  The Aisle of Frights Committee will be chaired by Annette Saint. Chairing the Jewell Farmers Market Committee will be Matt Homelvig and Beth McKain.  All standing committee chairs were recognized and the budget for 2023 was presented and approved.

After a presentation by Deb Bohnert, the group voted to support the Great Kansas Road Trip scheduled for May in Smith, Jewell and Republic counties. In other business, Becky Loomis reported the nine previously ordered buffalo statues would be arriving. 

The February meeting of the Jewell Chamber of Commerce will be at 6:30 p.m., Feb. 13, in the Jewell Community Center with Trinity UMC Women of Grace preparing the meal.
