Lightning protection scam targets Jewell County residents

The Jewell County Sheriff’s office is investigating an apparent scam in the county. A group of three to five men from Nebraska appear to be targeting elderly residents in Jewell County claiming to be “Lightning Protection Specialists” out of Grand Island. These men are examining roofs and telling victims they will be protected from lightning for “X” amount of years if the victim writes a check for “X” amount of money. This is not believed to be a real company. If these men come to your house or you

believe you’re being scammed, call the sheriff’s office at 785-378-3194. Tell your parents and grandparents. Help us keep our elderly residents safe!
