Midway Co-op donates to Kansas Wheat Commission

Midway Co-op Association recently donated $20,000 to the Kansas Wheat Commission Research Foundation. It is a cooperative agreement between the Kansas Wheat Commission and the Kansas Association of Wheat Growers.

The Kansas Wheat Commission is a grower-funded, grower-governed advocacy organization working to secure the future of Kansas wheat in the global market through international trade, research, export system studies and improved varieties of wheat. Its mission is to increase wheat producer productivity and profitability through research, education and domestic and international market development.

The KWC is funded by a voluntary, two cent assessment on each bushel of wheat produced in Kansas. Kansas grows nearly 6.8 million acres of wheat and raises more than 300 million bushels every year. Kansas is the largest flour milling state in the United States and Kansas produces enough wheat to produce 36 billion loaves of bread every year!

Craig Mans, office manager of Midway Co-op said, “Midway Co-op appreciates the Kansas Wheat Commission and what they have done to advocate for Kansas wheat worldwide. Midway took in 4.2 million bushels of wheat at harvest last year and we are expecting about 3 million bushels this year.”
