Friday, Sept. 4, is Homecoming at Lawrence Nelson! Students at the middle and high school will kick off the week on Sunday by decorating the high school halls. However, the 60 grade students do not have to decorate on Sunday. They will be decorating during school.

Parents are asked not to attend this year, but instead, have their child prepared and ready to decorate by having their supplies on site. Sixth graders will have a designated door to decorate at the school with a partner from their class.

To celebrate this week, the school is planning on the following: Dress up days. preschool and elementary students have different themes than the middle school and high school. PreK and elementary will start with Color Day. Each class will wear their assigned “color” to school on Monday, Aug. 31. Class colors are as follows: Preschool, purple; Kindergarten, orange; 1st Grade, green; 2nd Grade, yellow; 3rd Grade, pink; 4th Grade. red; 5th Grade, blue; and Staff. black. Tuesday, Sept. 1, will be Western Dress-Up Day, followed by Mismatch Day on Wednesday. Favorite Sports Team Day is Thursday. The week ends with Black and Silver Day on Friday.

Students at the middle and high schools will begin with Pajama Day on Monday, Aug. 31, followed by Hawaiian Day on Tuesday. Phil Miller Day will be the theme for Wednesday. Wear bibbies and glasses with one lens. Thursday’s Theme is Anti-Mr. Brown day, or Husker Day. Friday, of course, will be Black and Silver Day. Go Raiders!

The homecoming parade and pep rally will be held in Lawrence on Friday, Sept. 4, and is sponsored by the Lawrence Community Club. The plan is for the parade to start at 2:30 p.m., at the school and end at the football field. Each elementary class will walk in the parade with their classmates. The band will play in the parade but not at the pep rally.

The game will start at 7 p.m., followed by the coronation of the 2020 homecoming king and queen.

The game against Arapahoe will be followed by the 2020 Homecoming King and Queen’s coronation. King candidates for 2020 are Blake Janda, Trevor Biltoft, Cole Troudt and Keith Miller. Queen candidates for 2020 are Avery Mazour, Jessica Himmelberg, McKenzie Ostdiek and Emily Miller. Class representatives are Nolan Ostdiek and Claire Himmelberg (freshman), Tyson Kotinek and Emily Troudt (sophomore), Theodore Kathman, and Elsa Jorgensen (junior).

Only high school students are allowed to attend the homecoming “Masquerade” dance and masks are required. There will be no band for the homecoming game-parade. Only students and staff are allowed on the football field for the coronation.

Dance information: The cost is $7 per student, with a $1 a day discount for each day the student dressed up throughout the week. The dance will begin within 30 minutes of coronation ending and will end at 11 p.m. Out of town dates must be registered the week prior and must wear a mask. Temperatures will be taken upon entry.
