The Superior High School boys basketball team had a less than joyous experience at the Runza Holiday Tournament Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. The Wildcats were handed losses in the three games they played.

Milford handed them a 46-37 loss in the opening round game Wednesday. Cross County dominated Superior 70-30 in Thursday’s game. The Bruning-Davenport-Shickley Eagles downed Superior 59-48 to end the tournament.

Milford led Superior 26-17 at the halfway mark. The Wildcats matched Milford point for point for the third and fourth quarters. The deficit incurred in the first two periods was the difference.

Superior was down 45-15 after two periods against Cross County. The Wildcats were out scored 35-15 over the third and fourth quarters.

Superior had an opportunity to close out a win against B-D-S. They trailed the Eagles 38-35 going into the fourth quarter. They upped their offensive output to 13 points but the Eagles answered with 19 to hand Superior its eighth loss of the season to go with one win.

Colten Butler led the Superior offense with 10 points against Milford. Ashton Grassman put up nine points. Tanner Theis tallied seven points. Jacob Meyer tallied five points. Roscoe Baumbaugh scored four points. Dayne Clark added two points. Grassman lifted off for 12 rebounds. Meyer grabbed five rebounds. Theis nabbed four rebounds. Baumbach and Clark nailed down two rebounds each. Butler had a rebound.

Butler topped the Superior score sheet against Cross County with seven points. Clark hit the net for six points. Meyer netted five points. Grassman posted four points. Owen Perrie and Theis scored three points each. Mason Korb scored two points. Baumbach collected eight rebounds. Theis came through with four rebounds. Clark and Grassman accounted for two rebounds each. Butler and Korb had one rebound each.

Grassman was the high Superior scorer against B-D-S with 12 points. Butler and Theis lofted through nine points each. Clark and Meyer put up seven points each. Baumbach scored four points. Grassman listed 10 rebounds for the game. Butler cleared away five rebounds. Clark took care of three rebounds. Theis had a rebound.

Superior hosts the 8-1 Thayer Central Titans at the high school gymnasium Friday. Superior visits Geneva, Saturday, for a contest with Fillmore Central. The Heartland Huskies visit Superior for a game Tuesday.
