Confusion surrounds event dates

We are sorry to report The Express got a little mixed up on dates last week.

The Pony Express re-riders will be traveling the route through Nuckolls County on a 1,966 mile trip from Old Sacramento, California, to St. Joseph, Missouri. More than 600 riders are participating. The re-ride runs around the clock regardless of the weather, just like the original Pony Express. However, this time the riders are not expected to have to keep their eyes peeled for hostilities.

According to a schedule from the National Pony Express Association, riders are expected to reach Oak by 2 p.m. Friday. But there has been some confusion about the schedule with some reporting the riders are to be in Oak by 2 p.m. today (Thursday).

If interested in observing the ride, we suggest you not rely on our report but check on progress by pointing your internet browser to national ponyexpress.org. Updates are also being posted on a Facebook page known as expressrider.

Unlike the original 19th century riders, this time a GPS unit in the mochila is being used to transmit the real-time location of the mail. That information might be found on the NPEA website. Recorded telephone updates can be obtained by calling 855-809-8589.

Art Show June 21

Last week’s paper also contained both a story and advertisement for an art show at the Superior Estates Winery. The story and advertisement both gave dates for the show but neither were correct.

The latest information we have. indicates Nathan Breland’s ceramic and pottery art show will open at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, June 21.

Breland is a Superior High School graduate and now employed as an art teacher. He currently lives in Hattiesburg, Mississippi. When we spoke with him, he said he was excited to showcase some of his ceramic artwork in his hometown. Selected pieces will be for sale.

The show will be open from 1 to 6 p.m. on Wednesday, June 21.
