Jewell County Hospital receives donation from Barbara Renner

Julie Stahla and Peggy Wilson present Jewell County Hospital board members with a $534,884.33 check from the Barbara Renner estate to benefit health and care of Jewell County residents.

On July 12, the Jewell County Hospital was presented a check for $534,884.33 from the estate of Barbara Renner of Burr Oak. The check was presented to Cynthia Clark, board chair, by Barbara's two close friends, Julie Stahla and Peggy Wilson.

In the last will and testament of Barbara Renner, the document lists specific bequests in her estate, then explains "all the rest, residue and remainder of the estate is to be distributed to the Board of Trustees of the Jewell County Hospital."

The name of Barbara Renner will be added to the contributor plaque for contributions of more than $10,000. That plaque hangs in the lobby of the hospital.

In the picture taken of the check presentation was board member Leland Tice and hospital CEO, Doyle McKimmy. Both Julie and Peggy were in the photo.

The board will be discussing how the donation can be used for possibly scholarships, patient equipment or items that improve the care and service provided. An accounting of utilization of the donation will be maintained.

This unexpected donation from Barbara Renner is truly an example of a person who understood how some of her assets could benefit the health and care of fellow citizens of Jewell County.
