Mankato looked like a winter wonderland on Monday. However, travel conditions were poor. This picture features a vehicle traveling near Mankato on Highway 36. Area schools were canceled and many area businesses closed early. School was also canceled Tuesday. Monday evening light snow driven with high winds caused drifting throughout the area and closed Kansas highways.

Kerma Crouse purchased a Berber blanket in the Atlas Mountains of eastern Morocco in June of 1978. The Berbers are a nomadic cultural group living in the Atlas Mountains. Kerma said, "I was in Morocco visiting relatives, Del and Carol Zhiri, who were living in Rabat at the time. The blanket is wool and handmade. I don't remember the cost, but I wasn't spending very many dirhams on any of my purchases. I gave it to my parents: Rex and Ilene Headrick. They used it for a rug."

Frosty, her husband, thought it would be a good poncho and Jane Pahls help figure it out and sewed it. Above, Frosty wears it as he scooped snow in Jewell Tuesday morning.
