Christmas program held in 133-year-old museum church
Museum holds annual Christmas service, Sunday
December 8, 2022
Sunday afternoon, members of the Nuckolls County Historical Society board hosted the annual museum Christmas service in the historic church located on the museum grounds. The church was moved from Ruskin to Superior several years ago. It was dedicated Dec. 15, 1889. Thus, the main structure is 133 years old.
Steve Renz, cochairmen of the board, served as master of ceremonies for the service. Carlita Price played the pump organ. Arnold Miller and John Price lead the congregation singing four traditional Christmas carols: "Hark! the Hearld Angels Sing," "Silent Night," "Joy to the World" and "O Come, All Ye Faithful."
Mike Sander, Pastor of the Superior Church of Christ, opened his remarks by telling those gathered that the church has officially changed its name to "Harvest Christian Church."
He talked about advent: both the anticipation of the Messiah's first coming and his second coming.
"The Biblical story is the story of rebels who could never appease God's wrath," he said.
In his grace, God intervened with a substitutionary sacrifice. In the process he gave those who accept his gift strength, wisdom and daily help: faith to get us through each day.
Sander's presentation was followed by the lighter side of the program presented by Miller and Price and portrayed in pictures found in this issue.
Members of the board, not listed above, include Fred Meyers - cochairman, Camie Kroeger - secretary; Dave Healey- treasurer; Nancy Meyers - curator; Dave Frey, Lorri Meyer, Marty Pohlman, Rob Williams and John Price Jr.
