December retail sales reports contain surprises

 


On Friday the Nebraska Department of Revenue published sales tax collection reports for December of 2022.

The reports contained some surprising numbers. While retail sales were up 4.4 percent in Nuckolls County when compared to the prior year, they were down 2.6 percent in Superior.

The word was similar for Thayer County where county sales were up 5.2 percent for the month but Hebron sales were down 1.9 percent.

In Clay County, the county-wide sales were down 1.4 percent but Sutton sales were up 3.4 percent. Adams County Sales were up 5.5 percent and Hastings sales were up 5.1 percent.

Webster County sales were down 5 percent but Red Cloud sales were up 11.5 percent.

Sales tax collected on motor vehicle registrations in Nuckolls County were up 4.4 percent in December 2022 compared to December 2021. Webster County collections were up 5 percent, Thayer County collections were up 5.2 percent. Adams County was up 5.5 percent but Clay County was down 1.4 percent. The statewide number was down 5.6 percent.
